Seated exercises to do as an older person

Seated exercises suitable for older people
Sitting exercises suitable for the elderly and wheelchair bound
It is true that as we get older, we tend to lose stamina, endurance and strength. Certainly, if we reduce the physical demands on our body, its capacity does diminish and this can make us less mobile and strong. The less exercise we do, the more our bodies weaken.

Doctors have discovered that exercise improves every aspect of our health.

And it doesn't matter what age we start exercising, our level of health and fitness can improve.

Some older people may find it difficult to exercise standing up, initially, as their legs may be weaker than they would like. This is why seated exercises are so valuable, as a starting point to regaining a more youthful level of physical wellbeing.

Anne Moore is a musician in her mid sixties. Anne first started to learn and practise gentle Chi Kung exercises after suffering from back pain and repetitive strain injury. Anne says:

As a freelance musician, Anne's life is hectic and at times very demanding. Anne maintains her busy schedule without damaging her health by regularly practising Chi Kung exercises. She adds:

If you can perform some form of exercise at least 3 times a week as a starting point, then you can expect to experience increased energy levels.

The seated Chi Kung exercises on offer here were specifically designed to introduce gentle, stimulating energy exercises to those who may be chair-bound, elderly or recovering from physical ailments. They also work very well for people such as office workers in sedentary jobs with long hours seated at a desk.

People who have practised these seated exercises have experienced increased mobility, stamina and energy levels. These exercises have been taught to chair bound people by teachers and therapists with excellent results.

It's a common perception that as we get older we will inevitably become frail, weak, tired and suffer from poor health.

It's also a common perception that once this decline has started, it cannot be reversed and the only prospect we can look forward to is further decline.

But as we know, "common perception" is often mistaken. And I'm pleased to say that in this case it is downright wrong!

Physical decline to a level that seriously affects our quality of life is not an inevitable consequence of getting older. And it's a false claim to say we cannot slow down or even reverse the undesirable effects of aging.
